"but since such divers are usually committed and enthusiastic, it's hardly surprising that they post rather more often than average. Many members of Dykarna don't post at all and are not necessarily actively diving at the moment."
I agree with You Mark 100 % !! - still it's kind of sad when those enthusiasts and "freaks" - in a positive meaning - tend to take over too much and disparage those who don't agree or try to just dive and enjoy the aquatic realm and don't give the "normal" basic dive space to ask questions and make things more complicated then they actually are.
PADI had a point here once - even though they are hated by many and elevated to the skies by others.
"*Diving should not be difficult*" - make it easy and fun and invite anyone to make it possible.
Out of 5-10.000 new divers in Sweden every year maybe 5-20 will be as enthusiastic as the cave- and wreckdivers it's not more so it would be really great for the diving community if people could look at a bigger perspective and invite people here on the site to disussions rather then scaring them away or make them tired enough to give it up just because they don't feel welcomed, scared away or just "this-is-not-for-me"
It IS possible and ok to dive safely with a single tank 12L (Tjocktolva) !
It IS possible and ok to dive safely with a Aqualung libra from 2001
It IS possible and ok to dive with a sherman regulator
It IS possible and ok to dive with a Underwater Kinetics UK4AA - Xenon (ATEX)
BUT BUT BUT - and here is the point - in an environment approropiate for this equipment !
If You are about to penetrate a wreck (UW or after a pub-night), dive inside a cave, cavern or in limited visibility, cold water and other more challenging environments NO !!!! Then this is not enough and You need better equipment !
I just wish everyone here could be a little more "helping" and understanding and please don't make diving a major fu**ing science - because it just isn't !!!
Diving is one of the simplest things to do and also the safest IF you're doing it right, listen to Your own limits and don't take stupid decisions and go far beyond Your limits and training !!
Let's help each other give the right advice to beginners - they don't need "APEX Gold super deluxe 100 star +++ - limited edition ", twin tank 232 x 18 L, wing with backplate and a 20.000:- dry suit !!
This will scare 80-90 % of the divers away and instead give everyone polite and appropriate information based on their needs and level of education. I didn't buy fancy shit first time - but since I liked diving I decided to later upgrade and this was a choice I wanted to take since I lied diving and I'm glad I started with "simple" equipment otherwise I would probably never have the experience and all the dives worldwide that I have !!
Diving is fun and it's EASY - just like taking photos !
It's not until You've made some 25 -100 dives (It's different for everyone) You know if diving is really for You !
and it's time to upgrade learn more and go into further levels in more advanced diving !!
Still I agree with You Mark, this is no critic it's just basic facts. We have all been beginners and to be honest sometimes I'm glad I'm not today since I would be scared to hear what is debated here sometimes
I'm also a bit jealous since I wish I could start over again with everything knowing there is so much to look forward to :)
Go for a deep dive in a local bar now, after all - it's saturday, cheers mate :)
