"First let me get my rant out of the way...

These are not EO connectors!

They are made by AK Industries who calls them their "Diver Series" connectors. http://www.ak-ind.com/diver_series.html

Unfortunately some knucklehead one time long ago read the description and saw under AK's product description that they also have the "EO style 2 way" connectors and assumed that the 2 pin diver series was an EO style since they had no clue what an actual EO style was. Only in the recreational diving industry are those male/female connectors mislabeled EO. Commercial divers and anyone in the offshore industry know what a real EO style connector is. Electro Oceanic (EO) disappeared years ago, long before the "Diver Series" connector was ever introduced.

This is an EO style connector (note: banded pin = EO style)

and it is underwater pluggable instead of just wet mateable like the diver series. The vents in the connector allow water to flow into the contact area where as wet mateable connectors create a vacuum in the contact area when unplugged and become more difficult to remove under water. Real EO style connectors are much more reliable than the AK Diver Series and are made by a number of companies. The real EO style are available in 6.5amp or 13amp rated contacts and with larger numbers of contacts and shapes. If you call up and order an EO connector from any manufacturer (including AK Industries) that is what you will get.

For the last time AK Diver Series connectors ARE NOT Electro Oceanic (EO) style connectors!

It's like calling a yoke regulator connection a DIN, just because they both connect the reg to the tank.

...rant over.

As for care and maintenance, never use petroleum based lubricant as is affects the rubber. Silicone spray is recommended by every manufacturer of rubber molded connectors, but I use a miserly, almost imperceptible, amount of silicone grease. Too much and they come apart too easily, attract sand and dirt and builds up in the socket over time making them difficult to fully mate.

When those AK diver series connector wear out, hopefully not on vacation, replace them with real EO style connectors"
